Hot Tips for Opening The Lesson



A) DRAW THE LEARNING LINE




objective:
catching students’ attention at the start of the lesson

steps
1.       make  a brightly colored “learning line” at the doorway
2.       suggest the idea of “learning line”

                                                               i.      a willing
                                                             ii.      cooperative
                                                            iii.      respectful
                                                           iv.      faithful
                                                             v.      etc

3.       always remind everyone entering the classroom to bring 
a positive attitude toward learning and each other

B) ASK OPENING QUESTIONS



Objective:
Helps students focus while emphasizing the class goals



             Steps
1.       Consider the main goals of your class
                                                               i.      To learn?
                                                             ii.      To gain skills necessary to get into college?
                                                            iii.      To develop social skills?
                                                           iv.      To become better writer?
                                                             v.      To explore new possibilities?


2.       Develop three or four questions the answers to which reflect these goals
3.       Choose a succinct, easy-to-remember answer for each one

4.       Students arrived and get settled in. on your cue or at the sound of the bell, everyone stands. Either you or (better yet) a student stands at the front of the room and recites each question in turn as the class responds in unison. “Why are we here?” “to learn!” “What matters?” “Math matters!” and so on.

5.       Encourage the class to speak in unison with gusto and to stand tall.
6.       While the class engages in the opening questions, you can take attendance or do any last-minute preparations for the fabulous lesson you are about to teach
